Chirrup III is a device that records birdsong over an extended period of time to measure biodiversity and thus support ecosystem health and resilience. It continually records ambient audio using the on-board MEMs microphone, when scheduled to do so, applying gain and filtering and saving as compressed MP3 audio files.

Designer Systems developed the device hardware and firmware which includes the following features:

  • Xtensa dual core 240Mhz processor module with built-in USB interface for USB host device communication and built-in antenna for WiFi/Bluetooth antenna .
  • LTE Cat-M1 modem and Nano SIM card holder with embedded GNSS engine for time/date and GPS/GLONASS position with individual LTE and GNSS ceramic antennas.
  • MEMS differential microphone with 24bit 8~96kHz sampling digital codec.
  • Onboard RGB (RED/GREEN/BLUE) LED for visual feedback.
  • Lithium Polymer battery powered with USB-C external power or Qi Wireless power balanced charge/power path processor.
  • Exclusively designed for Chirrup
