GSM Security and Monitoring

Watchmonitor is a networked ship location, monitoring/control and security system based on GPS and GSM mobile technology. The product consists of individual control/monitoring/display units that are installed in relevant locations around the ship which are connected back to a central unit using a custom RS485 network [BoatNet]. The photo shows the Helm display unit installed on a Sunseeker 82.

Designer Systems developed the hardware and embedded firmware which includes the following features:

  • Multi PIC16 microcontroller design.
  • Custom RS485 network [BoatNet] developed to allow simple system expansion.
  • Standard system consists of Central unit, Helm display and Keypad. Can be expanded with Bilge monitor, Cabin display (with anchor swing drift alarm), Gass sensor and NMEA/Sealtalk listener.
  • GPS position movement detection with S.M.S alarm.
  • GSM S.M.S configuration and monitoring.
  • Designed for Microcomms Marine but never brought to market.
